Since 2010 I have done extensive research in 20 archives in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Canada, accumulating over 150,000 photos of archival documents. I have a reasonable-to-excellent knowledge of the following topics relating to the Royal Navy in the years 1854-1919:
- Officers of the Military Branch
- Admiralty administration
- Warship design and construction
- Education and Training
- The Battle of Jutland
- Policy
- Operations
- Historiography
And much, much more. I can also analyse service records of ratings and officers. If I don’t know something, I know where to look. I also have many contacts within the naval history community to ask if I do not know something or am unsure.
For production companies my charges are: £105 base fee for 5 hours or less, and £20 per hour thereafter. If U.K. archival research is needed, £100 per day base rate, plus travel and accommodation expenses where applicable. £20 per hour will not be charged during archival research as this will likely just involve ordering/photographing material. All VAT inclusive. I can be reached at simon AT dreadnoughtproject.org.
